I've always been glad to celebrate my birthday in May. It's late enough in the month that it usually coincides with the Memorial Day weekend. A three-day holiday weekend every year of my life? Now that's the gift that keeps on giving. Thanks, parents!

This year I'm turning 53 (how did that happen?) and one of my friends is hosting a henna party in my honor. How cool is that? I've never had it done, so I'm excited to experience the process. Have you had your hands hennaed?

Crochet Corner

I don't have a lot of hobbies outside of reading and hanging with my friends. Writing takes up the majority of my non-day-job time. Well, that and scrolling on my phone. And walking an hour a day. And napping. And, oh, cannot forget reading. Okay, okay, I have a few hobbies. All the same, I've been wanting to do something creative during those times when I'm listening to an audiobook and want an activity to keep my hands busy (I mean, I *could* do house work, but I ask you, is that really creative?). Enter crochet! I'd seen ads for this company's kits for newbies on social media for about a year without jumping, but when Snoopy and Woodstock popped up in my feed, well it felt like fate. I'll let you know how it goes. -- and if you have any tips for this rank beginner, I'd welcome them!

Summer Dreaming

​My plans for this summer are fairly low-key. Finishing the story that will go into the Light My Fire anthology, a visit home to see family and old friends, and spending time at the pool are on deck. Oh, and I'm headed to a writer's convention in early June.

But if this year is on the tame side, it's just the calm before the awesome. At the start of next summer, my friends and I are planning to hike Cinque Terre in Italy. Now *that* will be a Snoopy-dance worthy birthday celebration!
