Team Deadpool or Team Wolverine?

Team Deadpool or Team Wolverine, That is the Question

Back in July, I began a year-long stint as president of my local writing chapter (Washington Romance Writers). I'm super stoked to be able to give back to an organization that has been such a blessing in my life. Probably 95% of my friends stem from the 24 years I've belonged to this special company of writers.

For our August chapter event, we rented a movie theater for a private screening of Deadpool and Wolverine.

Yeah, a private screening. I felt so ritzy! Next I'll be wearing a tiara to random social gatherings.

Oh, wait. I already do.

Well anyhoo, we had a great time and the movie was funny, potty-mouthed, and touching.

Touching?

Yep. Both in the "lots of comic book physical punchy, stabby, grappling-y" way one might expect from the Deadpool franchise but also in the "wow, I care about these two characters and their relationship" way... oddly also expected of this franchise.

Photo 1: A group of us met up before the movie to get some writing in. Photo 2: Entranced by the movie. Photo 3: The crew at lunch after (I'm second from the right in a gray shirt that reads, "All Write, All Write, All Write").

Why did we go to this movie over, say, It Ends With Us, which may seem like a better fit for a bunch of romance writers?

Well, when you wear the tiara, sometimes the power goes to your head and you unilaterally decide you wanna build a snowman. I mean watch a bro-mance. I mean have you actually seen Wolverine without his shirt on?

Is it getting hot in here? Just me?

(A treat for you: watch Chance the Rapper perform a country version of Nelly's "Hot in Herre" . You won't regret it--though fair warning--the lyrics are not safe for work!)

Recently my newsletter provider added a polling function and I'm dying to test it out.

So here goes:

A recent review of my short story, "The One That I See" in the Craving My Roommate anthology (now in Kindle Unlimited!) claimed it to be a "sweet and body affirming story with a spanky plot twist."

Is it just me or could sum up the Deadpool universe too? Check out my story and let me know what you think! <wink>
