That Pit in My Stomach

It's not even August

So why do I have do I have Fall on my mind? I think I need to work on staying in the moment so I can fully enjoy the next five weeks. Maybe some meditation by the pool would help...

In our newsletter today:

  1. 1) July was good -- thank you!
  2. 2) Mark you calendar: Fall into a Book Facebook event September 20 & 21
  3. 3) Anthology and Box Set collection
  4. 4) That pit in my stomach

July was good!

A visit with family, some trips to the pool, hanging out with my high school buddies. Oh, and my third book birthday! Yep. July was good! Thank you to all who helped make the debut of Craving My Roommate such a fun experience. Your support is everything.

Here's a quick video capturing some moments. The dolls were made by my mom's grandmother. How cool is that? Not pictured: drag brunch--and dinner at an historic tavern with writer pals Glori Medina, Skye Knight, Rae Fields, and the superlative Editor Jess.

Fall Into A Book Giveaway

For the second year in a row, I'm joining over three and fifty hundred authors for the Isn’t It Romantic Book Club’s Fall Into a Book Giveaway on Facebook happening September 20 and 21.

This is a fantastic and fast-paced event with the chance to meet authors, play games, and win lots of pr!zes, including books, gift cards, and swag.

Join the group and mark your calendar. I had a blast last year and I *can’t wait* to see you there this September!

Anthologies and Box Sets

Are you familiar with BookFunnel? It's a service that allows authors like me to share books with readers. It can also be a great way for readers to find promotions full of stories that are targeted to what we really like to read. This month, I joined a bunch of other authors who have either anthologies or box sets for sale which means you'll see my upcoming anthology Winter Wishes and Holiday Kisses in the mix.

I admit it... I've already clickety-clicked on a few of the offerings myself. Once a reader, always a reader. Give the collection a look and see if any of these babies whets your reading appetite!

That pit in my stomach

You know how I raised the possibility of a little poolside meditation in my intro? Sigh. I think my "Oh, no, the Fall is coming" angst is tied to getting stuck on my final anthology story of the year. Sometime last week I utterly froze on my forward momentum, knowing that something was off in my draft and that I needed to fix it before I could write another word. Cue the opening of the deep pit of despair and consternation in my belly!

Since then I've been letting my back brain noodle on how to revise the story so it will fit the necessary word count (the basic issue is my premise was Too Big so I need to narrow my focus a wee bit). But I get impatient and antsy when I'm not actively writing so this delay has been stressful--even though ultimately it was the right move to make. Sometimes ya gotta stop digging the hole, right?

The good news is that I've figured out a path to The End. The pit in my stomach is giving way to the flutter of hopeful butterflies--and today I'm excited to turn my attention back to getting words on the page. I'll make my deadline, do justice to the last of Celia and David's three short story arc, AND deliver you a great reading experience that includes a bonfire (or two), a Thanksgiving feast, and some, ahem, hot and fun s-e-x-u-a-l healing.

Ciao for now,

Keely

Team Deadpool or Team Wolverine, That is the Question Back in July, I began a year-long stint as president of my local writing chapter (Washington Romance Writers). I'm super stoked to be able to give back to an organization that has been such a blessing in my life. Probably 95% of my friends stem from the 24 years I've belonged to this special company of writers. For our August chapter event, we rented a movie theater for a private screening of Deadpool and Wolverine. Yeah, a private...
